About

Elyssa Cherney

I'm a criminal-justice reporter based in Orlando, Fla, where I covered the mass shooting at the Pulse night club as part of the Orlando Sentinel's breaking news team. I sniff out enterprise stories that focus on treatment of juveniles, errors in the court system and class disparities. In all these endeavors, I draw on video and multimedia to enhance storytelling.

I previously covered statewide issues at the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette and have written from Kathmandu and Johannesburg. A Chicago-area native, I graduated magna cumme laude from Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism in 2014.
